🍇 Discovering Şirince: A Hidden Gem Near Kuşadası
Tucked into the rolling green hills above Selçuk, just a short journey from Kuşadası, lies the charming village of Şirince, a peaceful, picturesque destination known for its stone houses, vineyards, and timeless atmosphere.
How to Get There from Kuşadası

Getting to Şirince is part of the experience. We started our trip at Şevki Hasırcı Meydanı (Shevki Hasırçı Square) in Kuşadası and hopped on a local dolmuş (minibus) to the Selçuk terminal. From there, another dolmuş takes you uphill through olive groves and pine forests to Şirince itself. The journey is easy, affordable, and full of scenic views.
What Awaits You in Şirince
As you arrive, you’re greeted by a cobbled hillside village that seems frozen in time. Traditional Ottoman-Greek houses with terracotta roofs dot the landscape, surrounded by lush gardens and blooming oleanders.
The heart of the village is a small but lively bazaar. As you walk through it, you’ll find locals selling handmade soaps, olive oils, fruit preserves, embroidery, and of course wines.

A Wine Lover’s Paradise

One of the most delightful surprises in Şirince is its fruit wines. From blackberry and pomegranate to peach and kiwi, the variety is impressive, but our favorites were the classic natural grape and the surprisingly rich cherry wine. Many of the wineries let you sample before you buy, and the tasting experience is relaxed and friendly.
The Church of St. John the Baptist
A short walk uphill takes you to the historic Church of St. John the Baptist, where the peaceful atmosphere contrasts with the bustling market below. Inside is a modest, seatless interior and a small wishing well beside a statue of the Virgin Mary. Locals and tourists alike take part in a quirky tradition: standing with your back to the well, you toss a coin over your head, hoping it lands in the smaller inner hole, if it does, they say, your wish will come true.

Where to Eat and Relax

There are several lovely cafés and restaurants perched on terraces with breathtaking views of the valley. We had the chance to relax in one of them, enjoying the sunset over a plate of mezes and a glass of local wine. It’s an experience that perfectly captures Şirince’s spirit, laid-back, welcoming, and deeply connected to nature.
Final Tips
- Visit early or late in the day to avoid the midday crowds.
- Bring cash; many small vendors don’t accept cards.
- Wear comfortable shoes, Şirince’s cobblestones can be slippery.
- Don’t skip the wines, even if you’re not a big drinker, some are non-alcoholic and make great gifts.
